March 25, 2020
On Tuesday, March 24, Mayor Adler gave the order the city to exercise Stay Home – Work Safe Order. The order prohibits nonessential activities, social gatherings, fitness centers, etc. The order allows for essential activities including going to the grocery store, pharmacy, take-out food, medical care, taking a pet for a walk.
The order also defines essential businesses which include grocery store, banks, gas stations, etc. To the extent that personnel are facilitating distance learning, educational institutions are also somewhat essential. The maintenance staff and IT staff of the Seminary fall into the essential personnel category.
To adhere to the recommendations of the order, the following steps are being implemented by Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary:
- The Dean has already communicated the need to continue distance learning through the remainder of the semester
- Southern Food Service will be offering carry-out breakfast and lunch
- Staff and faculty will be working remotely
- United States Mail will not be sorted during the week. Once a week (Sunday) the mail will be sorted. It’s recommended that whenever possible, paperless versions of bills be the primary mode of receipt, rather than mailed bills
- On-call maintenance is still available for student housing emergencies. Please refer to the directory and housing handbook for details.
- Payroll is processed through a secured site remotely and on time
Everyone has seen repeatedly the information and guidelines from the CDC to help stop the spread of COVID-19. These are difficult times that seem impossible to believe we are living. Being a part of this faith community is reassuring. Your love and compassion, even in the midst of confusion and frustration, have sustained me these past couple of weeks. I am hopeful that we continue to work together from a distance to get our lives back to normal.
